Vintage Chinese Shiwan Pottery Shou Lao God of Longevity Figure.20th Century vintage Chinese Shiwan pottery figure depicting Shou Lao, or Shouxing, the Taoist God of Longevity. The elderly bearded figure is modelled seated with an open robe and rounded belly, holding a peach in both hands; the peach is a traditional symbol of longevity and immortality and is commonly associated with representations of Shou Lao.The figure has the appealing combination of glazed and unglazed surfaces associated with Shiwan pottery, with a soft green glazed robe, brown trousers and a warm terracotta-toned face and hands. The expressive open-mouthed face, individually modelled fingers and softly mottled glaze give the piece plenty of personality and handmade character.
Dimensions: 8cm x 6cm x 16.5cm
Condition:Good vintage condition with general age-related surface wear, small glaze irregularities, rubbing and minor marks throughout. There are areas of wear to the glaze and decoration consistent with age and manufacture, but no obvious major damage visible in the photographs. The underside is unglazed and unmarked. Please refer closely to the photographs for the overall condition and finish.
