Regency Rosewood Glazed Display Cabinet with Barley Twist Columns

Regency Rosewood Glazed Display Cabinet with Barley Twist Columns.A particularly fine late Regency rosewood display cabinet, combining elegant proportions with an unusually high level of decorative detail and craftsmanship. The glazed double doors are framed by slender barley twist columns and fine beaded moulding, with carved scrolling motifs to the upper corners of each door. The cabinet retains its hand-floated glass, with the subtle waviness and gentle distortion associated with early 19th-century glazing, adding greatly to the character of the piece. The doors are secured by an exceptionally long brass closing rod neatly let into the frame, a beautifully made detail that speaks to the quality of the original construction. Above, a scalloped gallery is punctuated by turned finials, while the whole rests on small rounded feet with a distinctly early 19th-century profile. Internally, two shelves provide practical display space for books, ceramics or collected objects. The rosewood has a rich, warm grain throughout, and the combination of original glass, refined brasswork and finely worked timber gives the cabinet a presence well beyond its relatively compact proportions.

Dimensions: 77cm wide x 33cm deep x 102cm high

Condition:Good antique condition with general age-related wear throughout. The rosewood shows knocks, rubbing, scratches and natural variation to the finish, with some areas of fading and surface wear consistent with age. There is a small loss to one section of the scalloped gallery, together with minor wear to the carved and turned details. The hand-floated glass remains in place and shows the expected light waviness and surface marks associated with early glass. The doors retain their high-quality brass closing mechanism, including the long internal rod, and the lock and key are present. The interior shelves remain usable and the cabinet presents very well overall. Please refer closely to the photographs for condition.
