Pair of Late 19th Century Spanish Renaissance Revival Walnut Side Chairs.A richly decorative pair of late 19th century walnut side chairs in the Spanish Renaissance Revival taste, with tall backs, carved scroll finials and deep red velvet upholstery. The frames are worked with bold ornamental detail throughout, from the patterned front legs and carved lower rails to the scrolling crest elements that give the chairs their distinctive silhouette. The seats and backs are upholstered in a faded crimson velvet and finished with multicoloured tassel fringe, lending the pair a suitably theatrical, almost baroque character. The combination of dark walnut, carved detail and aged textile gives them a strong decorative presence without feeling overly formal. Ideal as occasional chairs in a bedroom, hallway or dressing room, or simply as a pair of statement pieces in a layered interior.

Condition:Good antique condition with general age related wear throughout. The walnut frames have knocks, scuffs, rubbing and surface marks consistent with use, with some wear to the carved details and lower legs. The velvet upholstery shows fading, rubbing and age-related wear, and the tassel trim is worn and frayed in places. The undersides retain older webbing. Overall the chairs remain decorative and present well, with the expected signs of age visible throughout. Please refer closely to the photographs for condition.
