Late 17th Century Carved Oak Coffer Blanket Chest. Late 17th century oak coffer, with a wonderfully decorative carved and panelled exterior. The three panel front is worked with large stylised floral rosettes and radiating geometric motifs, echoed across the three panels of the hinged lid with further carved flowerheads set within lozenges. Moulded rails and channelled stile supports add further depth to the facade, while the panelled sides retain the simple joined construction typical of the period. The lid lifts to reveal a generous open interior, making this an attractive piece of early furniture that remains genuinely useful for storing blankets or linen.

Condition:Good antique condition for its considerable age, with numerous marks, knocks, scratches, old repairs and areas of wear throughout. There is evidence of historic woodworm and some old deterioration to the timber. The underside and rear show later strengthening and repair work, including additional timber supports, and there are old splits and repairs around the lid and hinge areas. The original hinges have been replaced at some point. Overall presents well.

We offer free cancellation or a full refund on any order prior to dispatch.
Delivery can usually be arranged on a day that suits you — simply leave a note at checkout and we will do our best to accommodate your preferred date.
We offer a flat-rate delivery service of £75 across England & Wales. For deliveries to Scotland, please contact us for a tailored quote due to distance. You are also very welcome to collect your item in person from our warehouse.
Most deliveries are completed within 3–5 working days from dispatch. If you require an expedited service, please get in touch and we’ll do our best to help.
If you would like to delay dispatch for a few weeks, please add a note at checkout and we will happily hold your item. For longer-term storage, please contact us in advance to discuss options.
Our delivery service is carried out by a two-person team and includes delivery to your room of choice. This covers up to one flight of stairs. If delivery is required to a second floor or above, please notify us in advance as a £15 surcharge per floor will apply.
Please ensure there is suitable access for delivery. If you have any concerns regarding access, feel free to contact us before placing your order.
For your peace of mind, we provide a 30-day returns period. In the unlikely event that an item arrives damaged or is not as described, we will arrange a free return. For all other returns, please contact us to discuss options.
