Large Dowlatabad Red Afghan Carpet

Dowlatabad Carpet, North West Afghanistan, Wool on Wool Foundation. Circa 1930s, The red field with overall five columns of ten Turkoman ‘guls’ supported by rows of cruciform medallions within an alternating red and ivory square panelled sunburst gul border, multiple bead borders, square panelled end bands enclosing continuous winged and stepped palmettes.

Dimensions: 313cm x 395

Condition: Good, slightly faded at one corner.
