A Japanese Arita porcelain box and cover of globular form, the cover applied with a knop in the form of a sprig of chrysanthemum, the exterior lacquered in roiro with brown and gilt hiramakie depicting branches of prunus, the interior decorated in overglaze enamels with scenes of a bijin and attendants having just descended from her carriage, the other side with an armoured warrior being presented with two tama or Buddhist symbols of wisdom.

Dimensions: 22cm x 21cm

Condition: Damage to the leaves on the lid and nibbles all around the rim.
