Early 20th Century Painted Scumble Dome Top Trunk.An early 20th century dome top trunk with an especially decorative painted scumble finish, designed to imitate figured timber and outlined with darker painted banding. The softly rounded lid gives it a strong silhouette, while the faux-panelled front and sides, shaped plinth base and iron carrying handles add to its handsome utilitarian character. The lid opens to a generous interior retaining a removable fitted tray which sits in the bottom of the interior space, making this a practical storage piece as well as an attractive one. The painted surface has mellowed with age and the grain-painted decoration still reading clearly across the front, top and sides. A useful size for blankets, linens or general storage, and particularly good at the end of a bed or beneath a window.

Condition:Good antique condition with age related wear throughout. The painted scumble decoration has areas of rubbing, scratching, small losses and surface marks, particularly to the lid, feet, edges and plinth. There are old knocks and minor losses to the timber consistent with use, together with general variation and wear to the finish. The interior is clean and usable, and the removable tray is present. The metal fittings show expected age and patination.
Delivery: 75 flat rate for England and Wales only. This is an economy service with a two-person team, delivering to a ground floor room of choice. Please contact us prior to purchase for deliveries involving stairs, restricted access, Scotland, or if an express service is required.

We offer free cancellation or a full refund on any order prior to dispatch.
Delivery can usually be arranged on a day that suits you — simply leave a note at checkout and we will do our best to accommodate your preferred date.
We offer a flat-rate delivery service of £75 across England & Wales. For deliveries to Scotland, please contact us for a tailored quote due to distance. You are also very welcome to collect your item in person from our warehouse.
Most deliveries are completed within 3–5 working days from dispatch. If you require an expedited service, please get in touch and we’ll do our best to help.
If you would like to delay dispatch for a few weeks, please add a note at checkout and we will happily hold your item. For longer-term storage, please contact us in advance to discuss options.
Our delivery service is carried out by a two-person team and includes delivery to your room of choice. This covers up to one flight of stairs. If delivery is required to a second floor or above, please notify us in advance as a £15 surcharge per floor will apply.
Please ensure there is suitable access for delivery. If you have any concerns regarding access, feel free to contact us before placing your order.
For your peace of mind, we provide a 30-day returns period. In the unlikely event that an item arrives damaged or is not as described, we will arrange a free return. For all other returns, please contact us to discuss options.
Many of our pieces are vintage or pre-owned, so some signs of wear may be present. We always aim to describe and photograph each item as accurately as possible.
