Early 20th Century Folk Art Carved Pine Octagonal Side Table. Unusual Early 20th century pine occasional table with a wonderfully naive, hand crafted quality. The octagonal top is decorated with an extensive incised geometric design arranged around a central wheel motif, combining star forms, cross-hatching and textured punched detail within concentric borders. Eight vertical pine boards form the pedestal base, each terminating in a shaped pointed foot with a small keyhole style cut out between, giving the table a distinctive architectural silhouette. The geometric decoration has a distinctly North African or Moorish influenced feel, although we have been unable to establish a precise place of manufacture. A characterful piece of folk furniture that works particularly well as a lamp table, bedside table or occasional table.
Dimensions: 40cm x 40cm x 49cm high
Condition:Good antique condition with marks, knocks, scratches, staining and general surface wear consistent with age and use. There are numerous old nail heads and fixing marks to the plank-built base, together with small splits, chips and irregularities to the timber. The incised decoration to the top shows areas of wear and fading, with some variation to the surface colour and finish.
