Early 20th Century Anglo Indian Carved Occasional Table.20th century Anglo Indian occasional table, probably Kashmiri, with unusually delicate pierced carving around the circular top. The plain central surface is surrounded by an openwork border of entwined branches and leaves, followed by a finely carved floral band and a softly scalloped outer edge. The table stands on three elegant shaped legs, each decorated with a small carved foliate motif and terminating in rounded feet. Probably made from walnut, the timber has a particularly attractive warm colour and varied grain. Kashmiri furniture of this period was produced for both local use and the export market, with walnut carving becoming particularly associated with workshops around Srinagar; the combination of pierced foliage and finely worked surface decoration is characteristic of the tradition.

Condition:Good antique condition with age related marks, knocks, scratches and surface wear throughout. There are small irregularities and areas of wear to the hand carved and pierced decoration together with the expected minor movement and shrinkage associated with age and construction. The timber retains a warm, attractive surface and the table presents very well overall.
