Charles II & Later Oak Dresser Base. Part 17th Century & later, dark oak dresser base, the boarded top above a frieze with three drawers having mitred and split baluster mouldings together with dividing panels with arcading, the front corner terminals with carved capitals, the triple arched apron with twin turned finials, the square and baluster turned legs legs joined by moulded lateral stretcher rails, on bun feet.

Dimensions:224cm long x 50cm deep x 86cm high.

Condition: This oak dresser base has an attractive frieze with its extensive mouldings and arched apron with finials together with its metalwork. Some aspects of the piece would suggest that there has been workshop attention to the item that was probably provided during the nineteenth century when there was a revival of interest in this early furniture. On the site of the dividing panels between the drawers there is some wear to the adjoining carcass rail at the base of the panels which cannot have occurred from the adjoining static panel. The arched apron appears to lack mortise and tenon constructional detail associated with this early criteria and are probably later enhancements. The legs have have patina but the feet lack the inevitable wear. The stretcher rails with their moulded cresting appear to be seventeenth century but may not originally have been with this item.
