Antique Patinated Metal Corpus of Christ.Antique corpus depicting Christ at the Crucifixion, probably dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The figure is particularly well modelled, with expressive facial features, flowing hair, a crown of thorns and carefully worked folds to the drapery, while the elongated arms and finely defined anatomy give it a strong sculptural presence. The dark patinated metal has developed a varied surface through age, with areas of lighter wear revealing the underlying metal. The figure is currently fixed across a simple wooden crossbar, with the lower mounting tab remaining visible beneath the feet; there is no vertical section of the original cross present. An atmospheric religious object in its own right, it could be displayed as found or incorporated into a sympathetic new cross or architectural setting.
Dimensions: 35.5cm wide x 24cm wide hands x 36cm long
Condition:Antique condition with wear, marks, scratches, oxidation and losses to the dark surface finish consistent with age. There are areas of exposed metal, particularly to the reverse, together with old fixing holes and general surface irregularity. The wooden crossbar shows age-related wear and is incomplete as a crucifix, with no vertical cross member present.
