Antique Chinese Elm Console Table with Drawers. Early 20th CenturyChinese elm console table with a wonderfully simple form and plenty of visible hand worked detail. The long rectangular top sits above two shallow drawers with shaped brass fittings, while the apron beneath is divided into recessed panels that give the front a strong architectural rhythm. Carved spandrels sit beneath the projecting ends of the top, and the whole piece is raised on four gently splayed square legs. The elm has faded to a warm honeyed tone with darker grain running through the surface, and old construction details and repairs remain visible throughout, adding considerably to its character.

Condition:Good antique condition with plenty of age and wear throughout. There are old knocks, scratches, scuffs, small losses and areas of surface variation to the elm, together with historic repairs and patches visible to the legs and frame. The top shows old marks, shrinkage and movement between the boards, with some small gaps and unevenness consistent with age. Further wear is present around the feet and lower edges. Some evidence of historic woodworm to the left side of the table which has been filled. The brass fittings have an aged surface. Structurally the table presents well, with the irregularities and repairs forming part of its authentic antique character. Please refer closely to the photographs for condition.
