Antique Carved Oak Barley Twist Candlestick. Tall oak candlestick dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, with a substantial barley twist stem and richly turned and carved detailing. The spiralling central column rises from a broad stepped circular base, with carved floral decoration to the lower collar and further gadrooned and turned detail beneath the candle socket. The oak has developed a deep warm brown colour with lighter wear to the raised edges, giving the piece plenty of depth and character. The exaggerated barley twist and Jacobean Revival influence make it a particularly decorative piece, whether used with a candle or simply displayed as a sculptural object on a console, sideboard or hearth.
Dimensions: 23cm diameter x 89cm high,The candle socket measures approximately 1 inch in diameter.
Condition:Good antique condition with marks, knocks, scratches and general surface wear consistent with age and use.Small later feet added to the bottom.
