Franz Ambrasath Marine Oil Painting.A large atmospheric marine oil painting by Franz Ambrasath depicting traditional sailing boats on calm water with a distant harbour beneath an expansive cloudy sky. Ambrasath was particularly known for maritime subjects and this is a characteristic example with the vessels painted in loose expressive brushwork and a beautifully restrained palette of blue grey turquoise and earthy red. Areas of textured impasto describe the sails and boats while broken horizontal strokes create their reflections across the water. Signed Ambrasath lower right and presented in an ornate painted and gilt frame with a wonderfully time-worn distressed finish.
Dimensions: Overall 94cm x 53cm x 6cm
Condition:Good vintage condition with age-related surface marks and wear to the painting. The decorative frame has extensive wear rubbing cracking and losses to the painted and gilt finish together with some separation at the corners as photographed. Please refer to photographs.
