R. S. Hawker Footprints of Former Men in Far Cornwall 1903.An attractive early 20th century edition of Footprints of Former Men in Far Cornwall by R. S. Hawker, Vicar of Morwenstow, edited with an introduction by C. E. Byles and illustrated by J. Ley Pethybridge. Published in 1903 by John Lane, the volume brings together Hawkers writings on Cornish history, folklore, local characters and legends, including pieces such as The First Cornish Mole. The book is bound in richly embossed brown cloth with floral and foliate decoration to the front board and gilt lettering to the spine, making it a particularly handsome decorative volume as well as an interesting piece of Cornish literary history.
Dimensions:
Condition:Good antique condition with general wear consistent with age. The embossed cloth boards show rubbing, scuffing and wear to the corners, edges and spine, with some fading and surface marks. The pages show age related toning and scattered foxing, particularly to some of the illustrated and text pages. Binding remains intact and the book is complete from the pages shown. Please refer closely to the photographs for condition.
