The Danish word 'hygge' (pronounced 'hooga') roughly but rather inadequately translates to 'cosy'. Why do we say inadequate? Because in the case of hygge, it is much, much more than just your physical surroundings being cosy. It's the feeling of love, warmth and wellbeing - obviously your physical surroundings can play a huge part in that!

The concept of hygge has spread widely over the last year and it's not surprising it gains new recruits in the run up to Christmas. The warming, flickering glow of candlelight is the perfect escape from the cold, dark  winter nights.  Winters in Denmark are long and dark, with just six hours of sunlight a day!
