Each top is centred with a circular arrangement of red floral motifs and green foliage, surrounded by radiating panels of finely pierced geometric latticework and a further trailing floral border around the edge. The removable marble tops sit on carved hardwood bases formed from four scrolling supports arranged around a turned central finial, the warm colour of the timber contrasting beautifully with the white marble. The combination of floral stone inlay and pierced marble draws strongly on Mughal decorative traditions associated with Agra, where this type of pietra dura and jali work continues to be produced.
