Ridge, Croydon. Late 19th walnut pedestal desk by J. Ridge of Croydon, with the makers name stamped to the drawers. Well proportioned and nicely made, with a broad rectangular writing surface above three frieze drawers and two pedestal banks, each fitted with three further drawers, giving nine drawers in total. The drawer fronts retain attractive brass oval ring handles and decorative diamond-shaped escutcheons, while the pedestals stand on deep plinth bases. The walnut has a warm, nicely aged colour with plenty of variation and character across the surface, making this a handsome working desk. A very useful piece for a home office, study or library, and attractive enough to work as a freestanding piece in a larger room as it is finished on the back.

Dimensions: 130cm wide x 60cm deep x 74cm high kneehole measures 40cm wide x 58cm high

Condition:Good solid condition overall with general age-related marks, scratches, knocks and surface wear throughout, particularly to the top, consistent with use over many years.
